The Paul Harris School project is born as a joint effort of The Rotary and Rotaract Clubs of Costa Rica in response to the earthquake of January 8 in Cinchona, Alajuela. After an extensive campaign to collect goods for the refugees in the local supermarkets, and once the initial emergency was over we partnered with the town of Fraijanes, Alajuela whose school was destroyed by the earthquake.
Our slogan for the project is “Una Mano por la Educación” (lend a hand to education). Our objectives are the following:
1 - Build a school for 100 children.
2 - To have an earthquake resistant design.
3 - To have a continuous project. Beyond construction, we also want to equip the school via matching grants, and fundraisers done by the clubs).
4 - To instill Rotarian values in the children of the school, in honor of the Paul Harris name.
5 - Eco-friendly building design (to take advantage of the local climate, re-use of rain water, and promote recycling).
